Program Volunteer/Tutor during the school year
Program volunteers and program interns are needed to provide homework assistance and help facilitate enrichment activities. Program volunteers meet with Dreamers at one of our after-school learning centers and will help students academically: finishing homework & promoting educational activities such as reading, writing, etc. when homework is finished. Volunteers/interns are not assigned to one specific student, but rather help in small groups and wherever needed.
Roles vary from site to site depending on the age of the Dreamer class. With older Dreamers, the focus is on homework completion whereas with younger Dreamers the focus shifts towards leading math and literacy workshops and more enrichment activities like art, sports, social/emotional groups, music, relaxation techniques, journaling, finance groups, and more. Volunteers are encouraged to build a personal relationship with the students. Program volunteers are asked to make a once-per-week, one-semester/summer session commitment and will meet with Dreamers sometime between 2:45 – 6pm depending on the site. Interns are asked to be present at the site 2 or more days each week during the semester/summer session. Initial orientation training and a tutor handbook will be provided.
(This is just one volunteer type we offer. Please see our site for more opportunities)
