Colorado Advocacy Program

Young Invincibles (“YI”) is accepting applications for our 2017-2018 Young Advocates program in Denver, Colorado. The Young Advocates program is a unique, paid leadership development program that trains Millennials on ways to address health disparities in our communities.

Advocates will work closely with our YI Rocky Mountain team to engage their communities around health inequalities and initiatives related to health care and healthy living. Participants will learn about topics like access to mental health care, reproductive justice, and healthy food; receive trainings and hands-on experience in a variety of advocacy tools; and connect with local partners and campaigns working on the issues they care about. Advocates will also participate in a Young Adovcates Day at the Capitol during the 2018 Colorado state legislative session.

This is a great opportunity to develop skills and experience in the core functions of advocacy and public policy work. We are seeking applicants who have a passion for YI’s mission and who are interested in building power among young adults to effect positive change in our communities.

If you are a young adult interested in becoming more engaged in civic and policy affairs, we invite you to apply here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YoungAdvocate. The application deadline is Friday, July 21, 2017 at midnight MST.

Program Overview

Advocates will meet all day on Fridays from September 1, 2017 – April 27, 2018 in downtown Denver. Advocates will also participate in a Young Advocates Day at the Capitol, likely in February 2018.

At the weekly meetings, Advocates will receive training on community organizing, policy advocacy, and strategic communications skills. In addition, each participant will create a campaign plan for local action around a health equity issue of their choosing. Participants will be asked to 1) conduct background research on their issue, 2) organize a campus or community event on their issue, and 3) write a blog post or other written communication on their issue.

Compensation

Young Advocates will be paid a rate of $12.00 per hour for approximately 175 hours of training and work on individual projects over the course of the program

This is a great opportunity to develop skills and experience in the core functions of advocacy and public policy work. We are seeking applicants who have a passion for YI’s mission and who are interested in building power among young adults to effect positive change in our communities.
