Kayak & Rock Climbing Volunteer Instructors needed at the National Sports Center for the Disabled

Description: The NSCD is looking for volunteers for the following programs in the Denver/Metro area!

• Indoor Kayaking – Indoor kayaking volunteers are needed every Monday from 6:30-8:30PM, with a first-time volunteer training held directly beforehand (6-6:30PM). Volunteers will learn about our adaptive equipment and teach disabled participants how to launch, put on life jackets, and the different strokes.

• Paddle Sports – Volunteers teach kayak, canoe, and stand up paddle board progressions for all ability levels to children and adults with various disabilities. Paddle Sports Programs are held outdoors, and generally run weekdays from 5-8PM or 9AM-4PM, though exact dates and times can vary. First time volunteers can attend the Monday night indoor kayak training, or schedule a separate training with the program coordinator.

• Indoor/Outdoor Rock Climbing – Volunteers provide a fun experience while passing along the skills instrumental to being a successful climber. Indoor programs are hosted at the Denver PAL Club, while outdoor programs are held at Clear Creek Canyon. Programs usually take place Monday through Friday in mornings and afternoons, though exact dates and times can vary.

• Sports Clinics/Camps – Volunteers participate in a variety of activities, educational experiences and specialized camps, which are often a partnership with Denver professional sports teams. Volunteers engage students and impart sports tips and techniques throughout lesson. Most opportunities take place on weekdays in the morning or early afternoon.

Requirements for volunteers: Some experience or knowledge of one of the sports outlined above is encouraged, though all volunteers will be trained prior to working with participants.
