St. Paul Full-Scale Exercise

St. Paul Health Center will be conducting a full-scale evacuation exercise to test the movement of residents from their facility to Westlake Care Community, one of the organization's sister/receiving facilities.

Volunteers will serve as actors for the exercise. Each volunteer will be given a face-sheet detailing the made-up resident they will play. Several volunteers will be asked to use walkers, wheelchairs, etc. Other volunteers will act hard of hearing and/or blind.

The purpose of using actors is to simulate the challenges of evacuating elderly residents without having to employ St. Paul's clients. We are requesting that actors, as much as possible, stay in character to improve St. Paul's ability to serve their community during an emergency.

During the exercise, volunteers will be moved from one of St. Paul's 6 floors to a staging area, located in the facility's activity room. Volunteers will then be "evacuated", using St. Paul's vans, to Westlake. Westlake will be testing the receiving annex outlined in their Emergency Operations Plan. When volunteers arrive at Westlake they will be entered into a database as arriving at the facility. Once all the volunteers have been evacuated to and received by Westlake, they will be brought back to St. Paul.

An actor briefing will be conducted the day of the exercise. The briefing will include additional information regarding exercise flow. Volunteers will be given face-sheets at that time.

This exercise will help prepare St. Paul and Westlake to more effectively and efficiently respond to an emergency at their organization.

Lunch will be provided to all volunteers.
